I am used to traveling during holidays in America. So, naturally as Golden Week (黄金周) is coming, I am planning to travel. But, traveling in China during the holidays is a bit different from traveling in America during holidays. Here's why.

The crowds

In the U.S., what we think is crowded is what Chinese people think is empty. Crowds are ENORMOUS here. One year I travelled to 乐山 during 春节 to see the Big Buddha, and was shocked to see how many people were in line for it! A 4 hour wait to go down to see the Buddha's toes. Yikes!

This is "crowded" in America
