    Hello guys,
    朋友们好,
Welcome to XiHa English Day 3. Again this is Richard, and I am really excited to study English with you guys togeter. Now let's get started.
    欢迎来到嘻哈英语,又是我理查德,很高兴和大家一起学习英语。让我们开始吧。

On Day 2, we studied pronoun intonation compared with noun intonation. Remember that sample: BIRDS eat WORMS versus they EAT them. The capitalized words should be stressed when you read them. And today we are going to study four main reasons for intonation: New information, opinion, contrast and "can't".
在Day 2,我们对比名词语调学习了代词语调。还记得这个范例吗:BIRDS eat WORMS versus they EAT them. 大写的单词应重读。今天我们将学习语调的四大因素:新信息,观点,对比和“can't”。

    Look at the following stentences:
    看下面的句子
    A. It looks like a DOG.

    1'

    B. It LOOKS like a dog.

    1'

    C. He LIKES running, but he HATES jogging.

    3'

    D. You CAN'T EAT my breakfast. You CAN'T DO it.

    5'

In Sentence A, the capitalized word "DOG" is the new information, and it is the most important word, which should be stressed. This stentece is probably used when you see a strange animal and guess from its shape it is a dog.
    句子A中,大写的单词"DOG"是新信息,它是最重要的单词,应重读。当你看到一个奇怪动物,而你据外形猜测那是只狗时,你很有可能会用这个句子。

In Sentence B, the speaker stressed the verb "LOOKS" to express his opinion that it just LOOKS like a dog, but it is actually.
    句子B中,说话人重读动词"LOOKS"来表达他的观点:那只是看上去像一只狗,但实际上那不是。

Stentence C epresses a contrast, so the words form this contrast, which is "LIKES" and "HATES" should be stressed.
    句子C表达了一个对比,所以构成对比的单词,即LIKES和HATES应重读。

Whenever CAN'T appears in a stentence as modal verb, stress it.
    任何时候CAN'T在句子中做情态动词,都要重读。

If you like this, please give me a thumb-up. Your support will be the best power that drives me forward. Thank you guys!☺
