Now sleeps the crimson petal, now the white;
Nor waves the cypress in the palace walk;
Nor winks the gold fin in the porphyry font:
The firefly wakens: waken thou with me.
Now droops the milkwhite peacock like a ghost,
And like a ghost she glimmers on to me.
Now lies the Earth all Danae to the stars,
And all thy heart lies open unto me.
Now slides the silent meteor on, and leaves
A shining furrow, as thy thoughts in me.
Now folds the lily all her sweetness up,
And slips into the bosom of the lake:
So fold thyself, my dearest, thou, and slip
Into my bosom and be lost in me.

作者简介

阿尔弗雷德·丁尼生（Alfred Tennyson，1809—1892）。英国维多利亚时代最受欢迎的诗人之一。 晚期完成了著名的《悼念集》。这次读的这首节选自以“泪水，空虚的泪水”开篇的那首抒情诗《公主》。

他不是拜伦的傲慢，不是济慈的优柔，不是雪莱的乐观。像永恒的尤利西斯，向海向生。

丁尼生的《尤利西斯》：
Old age hath yet his honour and his toil;
你们和我都已老了，但老年仍有老年的荣誉、老年的辛劳；
