Ansai waist drum is a Han folk dance in northern Shaanxi. The performance can be carried out by several or thousands of people. In ancient times, men of tribes in the Yellow River valley used a hollow trunk wrapped in the sheepskin to carry around their waist to drive out wild animals. Later, in the Qin Dynasty, in order to prevent other nomads from invading the territory, each soldier carried drums on his back used as an alarm. Ansai County is named as the hometown of the waist drum in China by the Ministry of Culture. With the approval of the State Council, Ansai waist drum in northern Shaanxi was listed as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage. The waist drum is spread in the northern part of Shaanxi Province. A folk square group art in the area of Ansai County shows the enthusiasm of the people in North Shaanxi, which is a unique and representative art form in the folk art of northern Shaanxi.
